Tracy Hall Dept. of Chemistry Brigham Young University Provo, Utah 84602 Dear Dr. Hall: This is to confirm your recent telephone conversation with Paul Steed and your agreement to be the featured Speaker during the California Association of Chemistry Teachers Summer Conference at Asilomar Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove, CA. We have scheduled your presentations on Wednesday, August 24, 1977. In the afternoon from 3:30 - 4:30 pm we would like you to discuss some area of high pressure chemisty that yoiPfeel would be of interest to our participants (usually about 75 chemical educators from high school, community college, 4 yr. college and universities). The evening program, where we hope you will tell the(story behind the diamond synthesis^ is usually attended by many of the spouses in addition toTparticipants. I would ask that in planning your presentation you consider that most of the audience would prefer a gener^Jj^informative tmd maybe even entertaining presentation instead of a technical talk during the evening program^ ~ ~ As Paul indicated, we cannot provide you with an honorarium but we will pay you the eguivalent of a round trip coach air ticket, one nights lodging and meals at Asilomar, and also the equivalent of a second nights lodging ($35) to help with your travel expenses. I have enclosed a copy of our preliminary announcement and also a map showing the location of Asilomar since I understand you will be combining this with a visit to family in the Bay area. As more information becomes available I will forward it to you. Would you please send me titles for your two talks as soon as possible as we will soon be preparing the program for distribution. We will be preparing an abstract booklet to give each of the participants and so I would appreciate talk abstracts by August 1st. We will have 2x2 slide overhead projectors available. Please contact me if I can help in any way to make this a more pleasant experience. I look forward with anticipation and excitement to your portion of the Asilomar Conference. When I started planning this conference your name was at the top of my list of desired speakers and I am so pleased that my dream is coming true.
